Three Ashes to Asterton 12.60 miles, 770 metres ascent
Starting from Three Ashes and the boundary of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, enjoy views to Wenlock Edge. Climb over Clunbury Hill, catch your breath and admire this “quietest place under the sun”, as described by A.E Housman.
Down into Aston-on-Clun, famous for its Arbor tree, decorated each year and possibly commemorating a village wedding. Then up the Shropshire Way to Hopesay Common and onwards to the Plowden Estate and Plowden station, once part of the Bishop’s Castle Railway.
You then walk up onto the Long Mynd and down to Asterton.
