Bishop’s Castle has been awarded “Walkers are Welcome” status. So it’s official, Bishop’s Castle is a great place for walkers.

CHURCH TO CASTLE
Section 2

Churchtown to Three Ashes
11.60 miles, 589 metres ascent

Starting opposite the church at Churchtown, walk along Offa’s Dyke and the Shropshire Way to Clun

Drop down to Clun with it’s Norman castle, old bridge and interesting houses.

From Clun it’s up to Black Hill and Sawdley Wood and onwards to Hopton Castle, scene of a grisly atrocity during the Civil War in 1644. Walk through the village and on to Three Ashes, the end of this section

Stop a while to explore Clun, an excellent place for lunch. At the top of the hill the churchyard has the graves of John Osborne and his wife, Helen
